Why you should go Gorilla Trekking?

Does the thought of spending time face to face with our second closest living relative excite you? If Yes, then Gorilla trekking in Uganda is must to have on your bucket list.
Imagine going on a trek through the dense forests of Africa, enjoying the thick green all around you. After hiking for some time, you are having an encounter with the huge Wild Mountain Gorillas. They may look at you, even touch you, or, just don’t care about you. But, how cool an experience can that be?

Mountain Gorillas are critically endangered species, found only in 3 African countries – Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda. As per the statistics of 2016, there are only 880 Mountain Gorillas in the world. Among them, more than half of the population is in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla Park, in Uganda.

Gorilla Trekking is a ‘must do’ when in Uganda and Rwanda. You can trek through the forest to sight these amazing species – alone as well as families. In Uganda, the Gorilla Trek is conducted in Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks, while most of the trekking happens in Bwindi. The best time for Gorilla Trekking is from June to September and December to February. It is said that around 80 people visit Bwindi on a single day to do the trek.

Do’s and don’ts

You need to take a permit before, in order to do the trek. It is highly recommended to book the permit with a local safari agent as the booking procedure will be finished quickly with them. Also, since Bwindi is a remote place, it is always advised to do the trek with experienced guides/travel agents.

There are many travel/safari companies that conduct the Gorilla Trek and the cost starts from 1000 dollars. It will be around 1500 dollars if the package has to be a super luxury. And for the stay, there are many lodges and resorts available where the price may vary according to the location, food, facilities, services etc.
