Kottayam to Dindigul for Thalappakatti Biryani – A Bucket List by Koshy Kurian

Koshy was on a bullet trip with friends to Kappad in Calicut. While roaming through there, they happened to have biryani from a shack. The dish was good and he was happy. While talking about how good was the food, one of his friends told him about Thalappakatti Biryani which was available at a restaurant called ‘Venu Biryani’ in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. He was overwhelmed when he found his next favorite biryani recipe.

Even after reaching home, he couldn’t brush off the details of the Biryani from his mind. The very next morning he picked up one of his friends and left to Dindigul. They started from Kottayam on Koshy’s bullet.

The journey was progressing smoothly. They used to stop in between to sip tea and other short breaks. By noon, they reached Valparai. They went further looking for a nice restaurant and had the yummy Meen Kulamb from a small hotel.

After food and small rest, they left to Pollachi from there. Since it was only 60-70kms from Valparai to Pollachi they didn’t stop in between and reached the place in 2 hours. It was already evening and so they checked in a hotel and spend the night there.

Next day, Koshy woke up early. It was the D-day! He got fresh and took a shower. They went out and had Ven Pongal from a nearby restaurant.

After getting some food, they drove to ‘Venu Biryani’. The day was fresh and the ride was pleasant. All Koshy saw in front of him was the Thalappakatti Biryani served on the plate. And finally, in 3 hours, by noon time, they reached the place.

Koshy parked the bullet outside. He slowly entered the place. He walked in the hotel, washed his hands and face, and found a place to sit. When the waiter approached, he straight away ordered Thalappakatti Biryani for two people.

Banana leaves were placed in front of them. Pickle and salad were served. And then came the main course. Hot biryani with fresh aroma, was served on the banana leaf. He fell in love with it. Then he slowly started having it. Every grain of biryani was taking him to cloud nine. Slowly, enjoying each and every bit, he finished the dish.

Koshy closed his eyes after finishing the last bit. His stomach and heart was full. He slowly got up and washed his hands. After paying the bills, they started their return journey.
